Signs You Are Not Slumming It In Singapore

It's a bargain!

1) You eat cheese.
2) You drink wine.
3) You have a car.
4) You have a child. That child goes to school.
5) You buy your fruit from Isetan.

(For reference: $59 sing dollars for 1 melon= 47 US dollars or 30 GB pounds or 35 euros.)
Unfortunately, I cut off the top part of the sign which says: On sale. At least, they have a sense of humor...I think.

  2. I'm Singaporean presently living in London. I just can't believe this ridiculously high price for a melon in Singapore, even if the fruit is sold in Isetan! Wonder how much a melon costs in the wet market?

    1. Thanks for following my blog!! Was a bit of a shock...you can bet we don't eat many melons from Isetan. I'm sure the wet market would be way more convenient!!

    1. Very funny! Yes, Isetan is not for the faint-hearted. I was just buying bread. Any wet markets you particularly recommend?

    2. No car either. I am assuming you do eat cheese, though...:)

    3. I keep commenting, but forgot to say, what a nice blog! Will be back for more, love to read blogs of fellow Sg expats. And feel free to check out mine, I have several, only one is in english (www.bedu-mama.com)
For wet markets, I don't know where you live? I go to Empress, as I live on Farrer Road. Holland Village is ok (as I am often there anyhow, easy to stop by fro fruit & great flowers) or Holland Drive, just down Holland Ave on Commonwealth is nice too!

  4. Hi Jennifer!
There are some local supermarkets that is way cheaper to buy groceries than that in Isetan. Check out Fairprice, Cold Storage or Sheng Shiong. Hope this helps! :)

  5. I have 3 kids. But I shop at NTUC or the wet market mostly. Hey, I have 3 kids. And they go to school...
Occasionally I do pop over to Tanglin Mall market place though, to stock up on cheese. Good cheese, and I do not check label for price!
